Educating Overbury!

With the new school year fast approaching our thoughts are turning to learning.  Here at Overbury we are really keen to promote and continue our own learning and encourage and support others to develop their skills.

We have 2 apprentices working within Overbury Enterprises at the moment.

Callum is our apprentice joiner. He works closely with Alan the Carpenter and the wider build team to help repair original windows and doors, make commissioned pieces and carry out general maintenance around the Estate. His apprenticeship is through Gloucestershire College.

Joe is our horticulture apprentice.  Joe works with Leigh and Tom in the Gardens Department to carry out a huge variety of jobs from planting, to mowing to tending to the original rose gardens.  He is studying at Pershore College.

As it is ‘back to school’ time we would like to welcome all the newcomers to Overbury C of E First School and wish them luck on their learning journey. During summer holidays the Overbury Enterprises building team have been busy laying tarmac to provide extra parking spaces for the school and it’s looking very smart.

At Grasshoppers Nursery the children are enjoying the summer.  The nursery provides a rural approach to learning with a focus is on the world around them.

We also host seasonal visits from Wychall School based in Birmingham.  Coming from such a large city it is great for the children to be able to see how the farm works and where their food comes from.  Each visit includes a trip to the farm and also to the greenhouse where gardeners Leigh and Tom show the children what they are growing at that time of year.  The children also get to sample some delicious soup made by Chef Billy using whatever vegetables are in season at the time.  It’s a trip which we always look forward to.

Here’s to the Autumn term… every day is a school day!
