On 14 October a panel of judges were shown around the new extension at Overbury First School. We are now very excited and proud to announce that Overbury First School has been awarded the Main Award in the Community Architecture category by Wychavon District Council Planning Department.
Special mention was given to how the new building really complimented the old part of the school, which is a beautiful Listed Building designed by the great Richard Norman Shaw in 1876-7 for Robert Martin. It was then extended by Ernest Newton for Sir Richard Biddulph Martin in the early 1900’s. Their work can be seen dotted across the Estate.
We would like to thank the Architects, Richard Newman and Russell Morriss of BPN Architects who did such a fantastic job of designing the extension in a sympathetic way, whilst ensuring the modern building will be fit for purpose for the next century! Also, a massive thank you goes to the team from Speller Metcalfe, the construction company, where Alan Keeble, Dave Price and Paul Fletcher all worked very hard to meet the tight deadlines. They were also great with the Overbury Grasshoppers children and the school children, giving them tours and demonstrations. To visit their website visit http://www.spellermetcalfe.com/
It is an amazing achievement and we know the staff and pupils of Overbury First School are as delighted with the news as we all are.
