Saturday 11th July saw the 37th Street Market at Overbury.
The weather was glorious and we estimate that some 800 visitors came to browse the many stalls.
We had Toff Milway on his stall ‘Throw a Wobbly’ helping people to throw a pot on his potter’s wheel.
The very talented Katie Hough was selling her beautiful pictures and also very kindly donated one of her pieces of artwork as a raffle prize.
The raffle sold hundreds of tickets and the lucky winners walked away with some amazing prizes including Katie Hough’s painting, a stunning hand crafted silver necklace donated by Mark Linley – Goldsmith, a magnum of Champagne, a very colourful hand painted Indian mirror donated by Jane Carr, vouchers for free Yoga Sessions from Sue Nash and a lovely book written by Alice Garrett from Alice Caroline who rents a space from Overbury Estate at Darkes Barn, amongst many other fantastic prizes.
There were stalls selling second hand furniture, kitchen and garden equipment, toys & games and handbags. There was also a tombola, hand made crafts, Forever Living products, greeting cards and more.
Farmer Jake from Overbury Farms was selling the first delicious grass-fed lamb of 2015, which sold very well. We will have more available later in the year, call the Estate Office if you would like more information.
The bacon rolls went down a treat and the cake stall was also a huge success selling out of cakes in record time!
People who ventured off the main street into the refreshment garden enjoyed tea, coffee, soft drinks, ice cream and cake while tapping their feet along to the live band. In another village garden Overbury C of E First School and Grasshoppers Nursery ran games to keep the children entertained.
Huge thanks go to Andrew John for organising the Street Market and to each and every person who baked cakes, donated items to sell and prizes for the raffle / tombola. Also thanks go to everyone who turned up on the day to help set up, run stalls, serve refreshments, be parking attendants and all the many other jobs which made the event such a great success.
Approximately £4,000 was raised and we will publish where this money will be spent at a later date.
The date for the next Overbury Street Market will be Saturday 9th July 2016.
